Teeth Whitening In the UK

In this article we are going to look at the different systems and methods of teeth whitening and why getting the teeth whitened in the UK is safer.

Getting a brand new smile has been only for the very rich and famous until recently and now everyone wants their teeth whitened and get a smile that looks a million dollars without paying a million dollars!

One of the big issues surrounding teeth whitening is safety and like everything is life there is always good and bad in every industry but considering the thousands of teeth whitening treatments that occur daily in the UK either by the use of a home kit or a professional whitening method there is no reported harm to the teeth or gums other that potentially short term sensitivity.

These are a list of the different whitening options-

Home kits

These involve normally trays which hold the whitening gel without coming in to contact with the lips or gums and the you wear them for between 20-60 minutes at a time. Now these home kits are very mild so do not expect miracles with one or two usages. You will need to use regularly to see any difference and they require ongoing use to see any difference and maintain the results.

Mouthwash/Pens/Light applicators

These are different systems which will apply a peroxide based gel on to the teeth. Pens you simply paint on and within a few minutes the saliva will have mixed the gel off. Mouthwash you use regularly and over time will brighten the teeth and the light applicator is a home kit which you place a mouth shaped light unit shining in to the teeth. All of these kits are unlikely to make any considerable difference to the colour of the teeth.

Bleaching Trays

Supplied by the dentists and are designed to be placed in the mouth and for you to sleep in them overnight for fourteen consecutive nights and the teeth will gently whiten up. These use a higher strength of peroxide and will whiten the teeth well if you have deeper darker staining on the teeth.

Laser or Zoom whitening

This method involves placing a gel on the surface of the teeth and within an hour's treatment the gel with oxydise and release the staining. Top up treatments can occur to maintain the whiteness.

These are the most popular systems currently in use in the UK to get a wonderful smile.
